Rakhi Jayashankar Travel Diaries How to pack effectively for long trips

How to pack effectively for long trips

I haven’t added any fancy photos as I would like to make it as realistic and practical as possible

1. Selection of clothes

Always try to pack light clothes. Materials like polyester, viscose etc are easier to pack, while cotton dresses tend to crunch and consumes space. Jeans are inevitable pieces of clothes these days. But it is not impossible to find a substitute for denims these days. Try to pack less denims and more of stretchable fabrics. Packing one or two denims pieces won’t hurt though.

2. Accessories

Shoes, belts, caps and other accessories are also unavoidable for the fashionable youth. Belts and caps won’t take much space but shoes does. If you are travelling on air you have no other option but carry them along the luggage. In such cases, wear your boots or heavy shoes and pack the lighter ones like slippons, loafers etc. If you are travelling by car, you need not keep it inside the suitcase. You can simply keep it in the boot of your car.

3. Folding the clothes

Key to effective packing is folding. Roll your dress, bottom up and seal the top by folding it back like shown in the picture. This way you can pack more clothes and save space.

This might look like a bag but this is my husband’s joggers.
For T Shirts, folding is comparatively easier.

Pack that which is needed only. Ask yourself if it’s necessary to pack. Remember that you are going to enjoy your days not to spend it carrying heavy loads packing and unpacking them.

4. Road trips and pitstops

For road trips you need to stop at different places. It is practical to pack your next day’s dress in small covers so that once you stop you just need to keep that inside a small back pack. This way you can avoid shifting your heavy suitcase everyday.

Keep these handy and try to carry cloth bags.

5. Sealing the luggage

This is an important step and the most neglected one. If you seal your luggage with a long towel, it will remain in tact and wouldn’t even budge despite any amount of mishandling. This applies mostly when you have kids along as their items tend to spill over.

All these are helpful if you are travelling by air or car. If you are on a bike, the plans are completely different. Next post you will get to read how to pack for long bike rides. Top post on IndiBlogger, the biggest community of Indian Bloggers

I just went thru your posts here, you have a good number of posts published over the years.
Keep sharing, And I think it is high that you must go for your own domain WP web page.
That will give more accessibility and freedom to do our activities.
    Think about that.

    1. Thank you so much sir. I am honored to be reviewed by you. I have been thinking about it for so long. But being a homemaker I am not earning much except what I get from my review programs in the other blog. That’s why I’m a bit reluctant about it
